This week marks the end to the delightful and quirky social media opera The Village, created and directed by the talented UK based composer Lee Scott, who incidentally is celebrating a birthday today.
After five weeks of mayhem and mystery, pigs and plots (yes, I did say PIGS), the viewer - YOU - gets to decide the fate of the hapless Village, which has been plagued by a dark evil since the web opera started a mere month ago.
EXPLORE THE VILLAGE OPERA NOW!
If you haven't had a chance to check out this unique musical virtual world, go to TheVillage.com and explore. You will find that you can check out previous episodes or just jump to the Grand Finale, where the listener chooses the ending.
Even more fun, you can create your own character and chat with other villagers, even becoming a part of the "Chorus" with your mutterings.
This is a unique way to celebrate a traditional classical form using 21st century technology. Besides writing the libretto, the music, and animating/programming the online game, composer Lee Scott trusted a handful of composers to write the instrumentation for his musical masterpiece. Each composer received a character based on their overall musical style and wrote music behind Lee's whimsical vocal lines. I personally had a chance to write the music behind the inventor Roso, who failed in his first political race despite much support from the Villagers.
If you love music and fun animation, you need to check out The Village!
