The Silent Noise of John Cage - Essay Excerpt When John Cage asked Aragon, how one created history, he replied, "You have to invent it." Cage then set out to create his own musical history, that of experimentalism (Cage, Autobiographical 1). This movement included composers Morton Feldman, Pauline Oliveros, Christian Wolff, Earle Brown, and many others who, along with Cage, stretched the boundaries of music composition and broke away from the East Coast post serialists.  Largely because of geographical location, rock music and Oriental thought influenced experimental music. They revolted against Occidental music, embracing the plurality and percussive nature of Eastern Music. Listening to Ladies and Vent Nouveau are excited to announce a call for scores. Submissions must be received by January 15th, 2017. Composers who identify as women and are of any age or nationality are invited to submit scores for previously unperformed music for a recital during Women’s History Month (March; venue TBA ). The pieces will be performed by an all-woman ensemble of musicians drawn from the Vent Nouveau collective, and will be included on a program alongside other contemporary works by women. Pieces should be no longer than 10 minutes long, with no minimum length. They may include all, or a subset, of the following instrumentation: 2 Flutes 2 Oboes 2 Clarinets 1 Bassoon 1 Saxophone (Alto or Soprano preferred) 1 Horn 1 Trombone 1 Piano 1 Soprano Electronics There is no fee to submit.
