Buffalo Filmmaker Boot Camp Channels their inner Space Force with "Welcome to Space Force", Directed by Chris Thomas  What happens when a bunch of Buffalo Filmmakers decides to get together and create a new zany film in only SIX WEEKS? Well, you get "Welcome to Space Force". Hosted by local filmmakers and music producers Aaron Webb and Sabrina Pena Young, "Welcome to Space Force" is a crazy and ambitious short film project.  Part of Young's Indie Filmmaker Boot Camp challenge, the film production moves from concept to realization in six weeks. Usually hosted in Kenmore, this became a "Rogue" Boot Camp when the group found themselves without a location due to a paperwork error. Nonplussed, the group decided to get together anyway and met in Webb's basement. There they brainstormed ideas and came up with a concept centered on Space Force. NEW Comedy from Buffalo Filmmakers - Indie Filmmaker  Sebastiano Poses with a Beautiful Chicken Boot Camp in Western New York Excited Buffalo filmmakers are getting together this summer to put together a crazy comedy in just FIVE WEEKS! Yes, FIVE WEEKS! In the first week cast/crew came up with a new script, all birthed from crazy ideas that we came up with while sitting upstairs at the Amherst Wegmen's (until they kicked us out!). Week 2 of the Indie Filmmaker Boot Camp, run by award-winning composer and sci-fi fan Sabrina Peña Young, preproduction plans were made at a house. Note: No chickens were hurt during the making of this film!  Now it's on to production for the next three Fridays. Composer Jennifer Higdon Awarded Opera America Award for First Chamber Opera "Ashes" OPERA America, the national service organization for opera and the nation's leading champion for American opera, is pleased to announce the latest recipients of Commissioning Grants from the Opera Grants for Female Composers program, made possible through the generosity of the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation. Opera Grants for Female Composers promote the development of works by women, and raise the visibility of women writing for the operatic medium. The program consists of two granting components: Discovery Grants of up to $15,000 that are awarded directly to female composers to advance new works; and Commissioning Grants of up to $50,000 that are awarded to opera companies for commissions by female composers. Activities include musical movement, painting Japanese art, playing African drums, making Australian Dream Paintings, making Latin American instruments, singing songs in other languages, and many more exciting cultural activities especially designed to celebrate and explore our world. Songwriting 101 Workshop in Buffalo New York Learn basic songwriting techniques like writing lyrics, rhythm, and harmony. Students will work on developing individual songs while working on fun and challenging music songwriting exercises that will develop music writing skills. Students will learn how to defeat writer's block and where to find inspiration when writing music. Students are urged to perform songs in class for encouragement and constructive feedback.
