Buffalo, New York Nominated for Ice Bucket Challenge - Record Snow!

Buffalo, New York Nominated for Ice Bucket Challenge - Record Snow!

For those that don't know, I am a Floridian...yes, one of those people from alligator country who believes you should be able to wear flip flops at least 11 months of the year and thinks that 70 degrees on Christmas day is chilly enough to wear my "winter" coat, which is a fashionable Miami black and probably a tad bit too tight around these Latina hips.

SO WHAT IN THE WORLD AM I DOING IN BUFFALO?!!?!?!? THE CURRENT SNOW CAPITAL OF THE USA? BLIZZARD COUNTRY? LAND OF SNOW AND ICE?

Yes, today is snow blizzard city here in Buffalo, New York. It is a veritable winter wonderland, something that Elsa from Disney's Frozen would have found quite like home. And we Buffalonians (yes, that is what we are called "Buffalonians", sounds like something from a Lord of the Rings Wild West offshoot, but that is what we are called) are prepared, and in fact, some are super excited about the chance to ski, sled, and enjoy other winter activities now that winter has officially said "HELLO"!

But as for me, I will be thankful that I have a roof over my head, a hubby that gets to stay home, and a warm bed to snuggle in for the next four months! Viva la Buffalo!

WORDS OF THE DAY:

THUNDERSNOW - A snowstorm with thunder or a badly conceived comic book character

WALL OF SNOW - Whatever you call this

LAKE EFFECT SNOW - Snow that comes from the lakes, or see above image

After writing the award-winning Creation Oratorio and dozens of multimedia works, I wanted to combine my love of the audio and the visual into a single large scale work.  Find a Great Dramatic Story You need a strong story to write a compelling opera. Fortunately you can easily borrow from thousands of public domain works and modernize them. Think of West Side Story (just a contemporary version of Shakespear's Romeo and Juliet) .   Many great operas use Shakespeare, the Brothers Grimm , and Biblical stories, all of which include interesting characters, strong themes, and action.   Libertaria borrows heavily from messianic stories, but is se

Electronica work Las Aguas from the prizewinning multimedia Creation Oratorio by Sabrina Peña Young. Originally commissioned by the Millikin University Womens Choir and Percussion Ensemble. Program notes and Translation: Las Aguas Cielos Sky/Heavens Separe las aguas de las aguas Separate the waters from the waters Aire Air La vida Life (Swahili) Maisha Life Bahari Sea/Ocean Hewa Air Iwepo nafasi kati ya maji igawe maji na maji. Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. Kuwepo na viumbe hai tele kwenye maji, ndege waruke juu ya dunia katika nafasi ya anga Let the waters swarm with living creatures; let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.
