4 Awesome Songwriting Tips

Many of us are too stressed out by daily life to enjoy really writing music. But for those of us who are super creative, we HAVE to write music. But how can we find the time to create? Here are some amazing songwriting tips!

1. Find a Quiet Space

Seriously, avoid trying to work in your home with the kids and the chores and the television all begging for your time. Instead, find a quiet place in your home or at a coffee shop to write music.

2. Try Something NEW

Always writing the same old ballads or songs? Then try something new. Challenge yourself to try a new style of music.

3. Learn Music Theory

You don't have to be a composer music theory guru to enjoy writing music. But songwriters DO benefit from learning music theory, harmony, rhythm, and how to read music. If you don't know where to look, try some simple exercises from books like Songwriting 101.

4. Borrow from other Tunes.

Really, it's that simple. You can borrow musical ideas, lyrics, chord progressions, and beats from popular tunes. Learning what makes successful songs work will help you write better music!
